Soft Sell explores how bodies, care, and survival are marketed under the guise of tenderness, drawing from Kayla Tange’s lived experience as a Korean adoptee, sex worker, and chronically ill body navigating fragmented systems. Using both representational and abstract forms—including ceramic heels, soft sculptures from old costumes, and suspended objects like pill bottles and pasties—Tange processes grief through material, turning remnants of performance into evidence of labor, loss, and refusal. The exhibition traces the convergence of adoption as marketed loss, sex work as marketed desire, and illness as marketed compliance—offering not resolution, but a reckoning.
